What does SMACK stand for?
Summer Musical and Arts Camp for Kids
What is SMACK?
SMACK is one of the top Musical Theater summer camps for kids in the nation. Students come together and rehearse a broadway show for two weeks and then perform the production in front of a live audience with full sets and costumes.
How do we pull off broadway quality shows with only two weeks of rehearsal?
It’s a miracle, that’s how! Just kidding! Students are broken up into different groups depending on their characters in the show (this helps with rehearsing). All groups have a rotating schedule where they go to four different classes each day: Music, Drama, Dancing, and Art. In music class they learn basic singing technique as well as the actual music they will be performing. Drama consists of building the basic principles for performing and acting techniques. In Dance class, students work on movement technique as well as learning the dance numbers for the show. This time also serves as blocking for our directors. Art class gives students exposure to painting and prop construction where kids design and build the actual props for the show. Whole company rehearsals are also built in to the schedule where we bring the whole cast together to work on large scenes. Oh, and did we mention that we have two casts? Yep, we put up a show twice with two separate casts! With great direction, a lot of focus, and a whole lot of fun, by the end of camp we have one of the best productions you’ll see all year in the greater Charlotte area
Who instructs the students?
SMACK is proud to be home to the best team of directors and instructors out there! Our team is comprised of professional performers, musicians, teachers, and artists who all have a passion for spreading their love of their craft to students and young performers. How old does my kid have to be to be involved?
SMACK is designed for 1st through 10th grade students. Our 1st and 2nd graders make up our Red group. They have their own instructors and learn special songs and choreography that kick off the big show, as well as a featured spot in the performance. The 3rd-10th graders comprise the main body of performing students.

How do I get involved myself?
SMACK exists because of the love and generosity of an enormous group of volunteers. They do everything from spending two weeks working with students, to sewing hundreds of costumes, to serving us lunch every day.
